The puritans were extremists back in the 1600's...After Anne Hutchinson was excommunicated the church really began to split up. So how could the forefathers not think that maybe in the years to follow Christianity wouldnt be the main religion. One of the main purposes of separation of church and state was to protect the people of Americas religion, by not giving them the power to do away with whichever one they didnt like.

Sorry, but I definitely don't need a history lesson on these United States, or religion, or how the two are intertwined. Anyone who knows anything about our history knows that the very reason for "separation" was the oppressive nature of the Church of England, and a desire by our founding fathers that such an oppression not be allowed in these United States.

And I do all of that and agree with all of that--my problem is with those that do not do that (or say they do) and then just parrot whatever their preacher says (when he may not be right with God himself or listening to God--seen it happen time & time again) when it comes to political things. It's simply easier for most to side with the church so as not to step on any toes and have the ladies auxilary down at the beauty shop defamating their name, and not question anything as opposed to doing their own research and deciding what they believe is right in their hearts--regardless of the party.

I see more flat out ignorant religious zombies around this area than educated & self-aware Christians--not to say the latter doesn't exist--but there's more of the former, and that's what worries me. That's what I mean about people having control of your vote because they're saying that it's against The Bible to vote a certain way, when their actual motivation is their own self-gain.

And God gave us minds to seek out his direction--not to listen to the Jimmy Lee Farnsworths of the world and take his word for gospel. Just because someone's preaching doesn't mean they're preaching truth, nor does it mean that they know what needs to be done for this country politically. That's my main gripe with politics/religion in this area.

Also, look back throughout history--most of the great civilizations thru history got into trouble and fell apart when religion/government came together as one--a theocracy doesn't work. It will in heaven--that I do believe, but on earth, it doesn't.
